About Us

Muirshiel Centre has been part of the Inverclyde community for over 30 years, at its heart it’s an adult day care centre. But we’re more than just a building. For many people, we’re a lifeline - a safe space full of warmth, connection, and laughter.

We work to tackle social isolation, giving people a welcoming place to come during the day, meet others, and make friends. For carers, it provides much-needed respite, with the reassurance that their loved ones are being supported while they take a well-earned break.

Everything we do is about engagement, independence, and wellbeing. We focus on building meaningful relationships, we try to think creatively, and we look for ways to bring real meaning and purpose into everyday life.

Recently, we were honoured to win Third Sector Organisation of the Year Award at ICON Business Awards by Inverclyde Chamber of Commerce. That recognition means the world to us because it celebrates our incredible team, who work tirelessly to tackle isolation and create an atmosphere of warmth and kindness. It’s a celebration of people-powered change and the magic that happens when compassion leads and we’re proud of what we’ve built together.

Muirshiel Centre Home Maintenance Van

Alongside the day centre, we provide practical support at home through our Home Maintenance Service. This service helps with those small but important jobs that can quickly build up or become hard to manage. That might be changing a lightbulb, putting up a curtain rail, or changing the batteries in a smoke alarm. We also help with seasonal jobs like grass cutting and hedge trimming, and we offer painting too - from refreshing walls with emulsion to glossing doors and skirting boards.

These might seem like small tasks, but for someone who can’t manage them anymore, they make a huge difference — not just for comfort and safety, but also for the pride and independence people feel in their home.

Another key part of Home Maintenance is our Rapid Response Service, which helps people return home safely from hospital. Sometimes someone can’t be discharged until their home is ready - whether that means moving or dismantling furniture, or clearing a hazard to make space for a hospital bed. Our team can step in quickly to make sure the home is safe, so people can get back where they want to be — at home.

When you bring all of this together — the day centre, the maintenance work, the rapid response service, and our community engagement through work placements — it’s all about giving people confidence, independence, and connection.

Muirshiel Resource Centre has been at the heart of Port Glasgow for over three decades, and while we’re proud of the recognition we’ve received, the real reward is seeing the difference it makes to people’s lives. We’re really keen to spread the word, because sometimes people don’t realise this support is available right here in the community.
